Hey, what's up?
I hope you had a good week.
Growing up in Ghana, we used to make our own toys. We'd make soccer balls from old socks and newspapers. We also made cars from old tin cans and many more. This inherent creativity drove us to make what we didn't have.
Hip Hop culture is the equivalent of that; maybe that's why I fell in love with it. For a group of impoverished inner-city youth to create a movement that has influenced the world shows the power of the human spirit. This creative power can be used either for our benefit or our detriment.
Once upon a time, our culture looked down on drug use and violence. Now, our culture celebrates it and encourages it. What happened? I can't even begin to pretend to know. I can, however, offer an alternative even if just one person is listening. A spark is all that's needed to start a fire. Hence, I'm happy to present this week's song: Who Am I.
Enjoy!
